Update: Paper on this game accepted to SIGCHI - Mind Reader: Designing for More Intimate Social Play in Video Games
Mind Reader
“Read your opponent’s mind, protect your own”
Tags: Experimental/Art, Brain Game
A fast paced brain game where you race to the center button to collect your own items while trying to discover and block your opponent’s item. Disguise your pattern of collecting to keep your combo alive and prevent your opponent from blocking. A great game of matching wits, it’s just you versus your opponent. No excuses.
One thing that is missing in video games is that players rarely are facing each other when they play. They often are both staring at the television in front of them and even with the newer shared tablet and surface games, the players are still looking down at the screen and not at each other. This takes away from the intimacy of the game as your focus is not on your opponent but the screen.
So I created Mind Reader, which is a game where you wear a Sifteo cube on your forehead using a headband. This forces you to look your opponent in the face throughout the game.
Interestingly even though players are looking at a cube on their opponents forehead, some players become so focused on the screen that they don't ever even look at their opponent. In some ways, it became a reflection on how our use of technology often makes us oblivious to what is sitting right in front of us.

I am currently working as a 3rd party dev for Sifteo to publish this game on their platform.
